Planning is underway for the town’s annual
Memorial Day parade, which will be held Monday, May 31.
The parade starts at 10:45 a.m. at Weston High
School and then winds its way down School Road, then up Weston
Road and onto Norfield Road, ending at Weston Town Hall.
The parade is organized and conducted by the
Weston Volunteer Fire Department in cooperation with the Weston
Select Committee for Veterans Affairs.
If any Weston organization did not receive an
invitation to last year’s parade and would like to participate
this year, call 203-227-8081 to reserve a place in this year’s
order of march.
Veterans are especially welcome to attend and
be recognized. Veterans and their guests may attend the
veterans’ breakfast at 9 a.m. and luncheon after the parade —
both free — at Norfield Church.
Call Betsy Peyreigne at 203-557-3192 to
confirm and let her know how many will attend.
All veterans will line up in the Weston High
School parking lot no later than 10:15 a.m. on Memorial Day.
The veterans’ contingent will be provided
transportation and reserved seating at the parade.
The Fire Department requests assistance in
providing cars, particularly convertibles, and drivers to
transport veterans, guests and dignitaries in the parade. Call
203-557-3192 to help with transportation.
Rep. John Stripp will lead this year’s parade.
There are ceremonies and festivities following
the parade, including free hot dogs and sodas served afterward
at the Norfield Road Fire Station.
The fire department hopes to have the usual
large turnout and invites everyone to start planning for the big
event.
For more information, call Lyette Segerdahl at
